Rumors Denied, Denver Not Trading Receivers Courtland Sutton Or Jerry Jeudy

By Jordan Long

The NFL is in free agency.  This is the time of year when players sign contracts and can be traded.  Two of the hottest rumors were about Denver Broncos’ receivers Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy who were supposedly on the trade block.  Those have been shut down for now.

Going into the NFL Draft, the Broncos only have 5 picks this year, two 3rd round selections, a 4th, a 5th, and 6th.  On paper, it made a lot of sense to deal away either Sutton or Jeudy for picks. Wide receiver Tim Patrick, who was hurt all of last year, could take one of their spots.  Sure, it would take away a valuable weapon for quarterback Russell Wilson, but draft picks are what this team needs to improve.

Head Coach Sean Payton is singing a different tune.  They will not trade Sutton or Jeudy.  According to nfl.com, Payton said, “I see and read just like everyone else does. Then occasionally, when someone really crowds the plate, I throw a fastball right at their chin, and they back up, and they’re like, ‘Alright.’ And so I haven’t thrown any fastballs lately, but we’re not trading those two players.”

Right now, it’s easy to say that those players will not be dealt.  It wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense to let them go since the offense needs help. Denver struggled on offense last season since they couldn’t move the ball or score touchdowns.  Quarterback Russell Wilson could use Jeudy, Sutton, and a healthy Patrick to throw the ball to which could help Denver improve in the standings and maybe earn a playoff spot in 2023.

The thing is though, Jeudy and Sutton could still be traded.  Just because Payton says they won’t, Denver could still take calls on them.  If there is an offer that is hard to turn down, they will take it.  As of right now, Denver is going to stand pat with their receiver core.  With the NFL draft starting on April 27th and ending on April 29th,  we will know more about where this team is at especially if they keep both receivers.
