The Denver Broncos might have a big decision coming. Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders is entering the final season of his current contract he signed in the 2014 offseason after spending four years with Pittsburgh. It will pay him $5 million this year. The good news for the Broncos is he won’t hold out for a new deal. According to nbcsports.com, Sanders said, “For me, it’s going to come. If it’s meant for me, it’s meant for me. But I’m going to keep playing ball because I love to do it.” Should the Broncos give him a contract extension?
Sanders has been a dependable wide receiver for the Denver Broncos. In 2014, in his first full year with Denver, he had 1,404 yards, the first time in his career he went over 1,000 yards receiving. He added 9 touchdowns. Last season Sanders had 1,135 yards and 6 touchdowns helping the Broncos win the AFC West Division and the number 1 seed in the AFC.
In the NFL playoffs Sanders made plays when it mattered. He hauled in 16 receptions for 230 yards. Sanders didn’t have a touchdown but he was one of Manning’s favorite targets because of his ability to catch the football. Sanders contributed to Denver’s Super Bowl win.
Sanders should be rewarded with a new contract. If it weren’t for him in some games last year, Denver might not have won the AFC West Division or the number 1 seed in the AFC. He picked his game up when Denver’s number 1 wide receiver, Demaryius Thomas, seemed to disappear. The Broncos could always count on Sanders to make the big play. When the ball was thrown to him, Sanders would do all he could to catch it, rarely dropping the football.
The Broncos can’t allow this type of receiver to hit the open market next offseason. If they do, many teams will be calling because of his ability to catch the football and gain yards for first downs or touchdowns. Denver knows how important he is to the offense. Hopefully Sanders will be in a Broncos’ uniform for years to come.
