Denver Broncos’ First Quarterback Depth Chart Reaction

By Jordan Long

The Denver Broncos face the Chicago Bears in their first preseason game on Thursday.  Earlier this week, they released their first official depth chart.  The Broncos listed Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian as co-number one quarterbacks.  Paxton Lynch is listed as the number two quarterback.  All of them should see time at quarterback on Thursday.

I am not reading too much into this.  It just a depth chart for the first preseason game, based on what the coaches have seen in practice against their own teammates.  There have been decent numbers of reps for them, but only in practice.  The coaches feel that Sanchez and Siemian have played about the same and deserve to be the number one quarterback on the roster.  Lynch, meanwhile, hasn’t performed as well, still learning how to be an NFL player.

The depth chart might change.  The Bears game should be a better test to see who should really be the number one quarterback.  This will give all three quarterbacks a chance to see what they can do in game action. Coaches look at the game tape and make adjustments as needed.  The tape will give them a better idea who should start for this team.

These preseason games will be important for them to prove their worth.  They must make an impression on the coaching staff.  If one quarterback outplays the other, then they will be listed higher on the depth chart.  It will take at least three of the preseason games to decide who should start week one against the Carolina Panthers.  The depth chart will fluctuate depending on how they perform.  Time will only tell who will get the nod in week one.

How do you feel about the Denver Broncos’ first quarterback depth chart?
