Milwaukee Bucks and The Chicago Bulls Make The First Trade Of The 2016-2017 NBA Season

By Jordan Long

The NBA season is almost here. Teams are already playing preseason games. The first regular season game is on Tuesday, October 25th. On Monday, the NBA had their first trade of the season between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Chicago Bulls. The Bucks sent guard Michael Carter-Williams to the Bulls for swingman Tony Snell. According to ESPN Bulls General Manager Gary Forman said, ”We’re excited to add Michael to our roster. He is a two-way player who adds versatility and depth to our backcourt rotation.”

This was an interesting trade. Carter-Williams is in his third year in the NBA. He suited up in 190 games and started in 170 of them. Carter-Williams can score and play defense. He averages 14.5 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.6 rebounds per game. Carter-Williams will be able to come off the bench, bring energy when he is in, and start games depending on what the Bulls decide to do with him.

For The Bucks, adding Tony Snell makes no sense. Snell has played in 213 games in his 3-year career and started 67 of them. He is not a player who will score with only 5.3 points per game. Snell averages 2.3 rebounds per game.

I don’t understand this move for the Bucks. Carter-Williams was clearly the better player and projected to be their starting point guard. The Bucks must have felt they had enough players to shoot the ball on this team including Jabari Parker, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Greg Monroe. There might not have been enough basketballs to go around.

The Bulls won this trade on paper. It is up to Carter-Williams to prove he can assist this basketball team to win. Hopefully both teams will look back at the end of the year and say the trade was worth it.

What do you think of the Milwaukee Bucks and the Chicago Bulls trade?
