Carmelo Anthony Considers Waving No “Trade Clause” For One Team, The Boston Celtics

By Jordan Long

The New York Knicks are trying to trade Carmelo Anthony. Anthony has a full “no trade” clause and would need to agree to a trade. According to NBCsports.com, Anthony would wave his no trade clause to go to the Boston Celtics. Why would the Celtics even want him?

Anthony is one of the better offensive players in the NBA. He can knock down shots anywhere on the hardwood. This season, Anthony is scoring 23.1 points per game.   He will also find his teammates on the open floor for easy baskets, averaging 3.0 assists per game this year. In his career Anthony scores 24.8 points and 3.1 assists per game. Those points would help the Celtics win games but may not close the gap on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The downside of the deal is the fact that Anthony is not interested in playing defense. He rarely steals the ball or blocks shots on his opponents. Anthony will have a hand up on defense but it won’t affect the play. It is part of his game he never seems to improve on.

The Celtics shouldn’t consider trading for Anthony. They are in a battle with Toronto for the second seed in the East. If they trade for Anthony, it would only help them on the offense end and wouldn’t improve the Celtics to become a championship team.

Right now the Celtics are in better shape without Anthony. They can score and play defense which has helped them to a 29-18 record. Boston should only do the deal if they feel Anthony is the missing piece for them to win an NBA Championship. Hopefully for them they will make the right decision and not enter negotiations with the New York Knicks and trade for Carmelo Anthony.

How much better do you think the Boston Celtics would be if they traded for Carmelo Anthony?
