The Qatar 2022 World Cup has been the source of controversy since it was awarded in 2010. The biggest issue is the weather in Qatar. The FIFA World Cup is always played in the summer. Temperatures are unbearable for anybody there in the summer. The average high in the summer in Qatar is between 106 to 114 degrees Fahrenheit, too hot for players and fans.
A solution formulated to avoid the heat would be to move the World Cup to November and December. It’s a bit cooler in those months with the highs between 77 degrees to 86 degree Fahrenheit, more comfortable for all. This could fix the weather problem. It is a decent proposal but summer is when the World Cup should be played. It’s an easier time of year for fans from many countries to fly to attend the World Cup and watch their team.
A big blow recently to Qatar is that FIFA is moving the Confederations Cup to a different location. This is the second biggest tournament to the World Cup. It only has the eight winners of the six FIFA Confederation Champions. It was taken away because of the in the summer heat. There is no word on who will host the Confederations Cup in 2021.
FIFA still wants to attempt to keep the FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar. This doesn’t seem like the right idea. FIFA should move the World Cup to a country that has milder summers to keep the schedule on track. The United States was second in the voting in 2010. They should be awarded the 2022 World Cup. There would be no need to build stadiums because arenas are already built for Major League Soccer. They could use those for the sites of all the matches. All FIFA has to do is say that the 2022 World Cup will be moved to the United States.
How should FIFA deal with the 2022 World Cup? Which country should host it?
I think the World Cup should be played in the U.S. But today it seems that everything is political. What can be done ?
FIFA has to decide if they still want it played there. Most likely it won’t which should happen.
Players could suffer from that extreme heat exposure including dehydration and even worse if playing soccer in those temps. Don’t they have common sense or at least some health care providers which give FIFA advice? It seems like a ridiculous health risk to me!
That’s why they are looking to do in November and December. So many issues with that if they do.
