Tennessee Moves On From Defensive Coordinator Dick LeBeau, Time For LeBeau To Walk Away From The Game

By Jordan Long

The Tennessee Titans are moving on from defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau. He will not be a part of new Head Coach Mike Vrabel’s staff. This is not a surprise since Vrabel’s background is defense.

Lebeau had been with the Tennessee Titans the last two years. This season the defense was average. They gave up 22.2 points per game, 17th in the NFL. They couldn’t stop teams from passing the football giving up 239.2 yards, 25th, in the NFL.

The Titans were great on defense stopping the opponents run and sacking the quarterback. Teams found it difficult to rush the football on this defense. Tennessee only gave up 88.8 yards per game 4th in the league. The Titans were able to create pressure on quarterbacks to bring them down with a total of 43 sacks, 5th in the NFL.

In the playoff loss to the New England Patriots LeBeau’s defense failed to make adjustments. They gave up 438 total yards and 337 were through the air. Tennessee couldn’t stop the Patriots from scoring, allowing 35 points.

This is the right decision for the Titans to not bring back Dick LeBeau. The defense was awful in the playoff loss to the Patriots. It might be time for him to walk away.

LeBeau is now looking for a new job. Teams might be interested in him because of how he can turn a defense around. The problem is his age.   He is 80 years-old and who knows how much longer he will be able coach in the NFL. LeBeau has been a coach in the NFL since 1973. Lebeau has already done enough in the NFL with two Super Bowl Rings, both with the Pittsburgh Steelers. There is nothing left for him to prove in the NFL. The best decision for him is to retire.

What do you think of the Tennessee Titans letting Dick LeBeau go? What will Dick LeBeau do now?
