Indianapolis Colts Finally Have Their New Head Coach In Frank Reich

By Jordan Long

The Indianapolis Colts have finally filled their coaching vacancy. It had been open since January 1st when the Colts fired Chuck Pagano. Pagano was with the Colts the past 6 years guiding them to a record of 53-43 and 3 playoff berths. They ended the year at 4-12. The Colts decided it was best to move in a different direction. They thought they had one of the top offensive minds in the game in Josh McDaniels who agreed to take the job . He backed out of it on February 7th to stay with the New England Patriots. The Colts then hired Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator Frank Reich.

Reich agreed to a 5-year deal with the Colts. He has never been an NFL head coach but brings plenty of NFL coaching experience. Reich has coached in the NFL since 2008. The previous 4 years he has been an offensive coordinator, 2 years with the San Diego Chargers and the last 2 years with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles this past season were one of the best offensives in the NFL. Defenses couldn’t stop Reich’s offense. They were able to score the football at will with 28.6 points per game. The Eagles gained 365.8 yards per game and were able to tire out defenses with their running game, rushing for 132.2 yards per game. With his play calling, the Eagles ended up 13-3 in the regular season and won Super Bowl LII.

Reich knows how to coach an offense. The Colts have 2 young quarterbacks to lead them in Jacoby Brissett and Andrew Luck. With Reich’s background the offense ought to roll. They should be able to run the football.   When they run the football, they can control the clock.   Once that happens, the game will be shortened for the Colts to come away with victories.

On the other hand, the Colts’ Owner Jim Irsay must be patient with Reich. In the past Irsay hasn’t been the most tolerant owner and will fire a coach after a few years of not making the playoffs. It may take the Colts a few years for to become a playoff team and learn Reich’s offensive system.. Reich needs at least 3 years. The Colts have the right man to lead their team.

What do you think of the Indianapolis Colts hiring Frank Reich?
