The Miami Dolphins agreed to a contract with free agent running back Frank Gore. It is a 1-year deal. It might be the last season for Gore in the NFL because of his age at 35.
Gore will be entering his 14th NFL season and Miami is his 3rd team. He was productive with the Indianapolis Colts and the San Francisco 49ers. Gore will boost the running game of the Dolphins. He has rushed for 14,026 yards and 77 touchdowns in his career. Defenses find it difficult to bring him down because of his speed. Gore is able to breakaway from the defense for long gains.
The Dolphins can also count on him in the passing game. Gore sneaks out of the backfield and catches passes in the open field. If he is open, those will be first downs. He has 3,672 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns.
The Dolphins were looking for a running back because they didn’t have a veteran. They have Senorise Perry, De’Veon Smith, Kenyan Drake, and Brandon Radcliff on the roster. The only running back out of the group who is experienced is Drake. In his 2 years with the Dolphins, he has 823 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns. Senorise Perry has 30 rushing yards while De’Veon Smith has yet to carry the rock. Brandon Radcliff hasn’t appeared in an NFL game yet.
Gore will improve the running game and should be the starter. The way he runs the football will take pressure off of quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Gore’s running ability should open up the passing game. Defenses will not know if the Dolphins will throw the football or run it.
On paper, this is a decent addition. The only way this move doesn’t work is if Gore is unable to run the football and shows his age by being a step slow, then the Dolphins will be in trouble.
What do you think of the Dolphins adding running back Frank Gore?
