The Denver Broncos are starting to interview for their Head Coach opening. They have already interviewed Chuck Pagano and Pittsburgh Steelers’ Offensive Line Coach Mike Munchak. Both of them have been head coaches in the NFL.
Pagano makes a lot of sense to be the next head coach of the Broncos. He brings 6 years of NFL Head Coaching knowledge. He was with the Indianapolis Colts from 2012 to 2017. Under him the Colts were 53-43, a winning percentage of .552. The Colts ended up in the playoffs 3 times but didn’t advance further than the AFC Championship game.
Denver may want to go a different direction than Pagano. His background is defense. They already had a Head Coach in Vance Joseph who was a defensive coordinator before taking the Broncos’ job. Denver might want to look for a coach who knows offense.
Munchak is an offensive minded coach. He wasn’t successful when he was the Head Coach of the Tennessee Titans from 2011 to 2013. He guided the Titans to an unimpressive record of 22-26, a winning percentage of .458. The Titans never made the postseason. Their best year was in 2011 where they went 9-7, the only time the Titans had a winning record under him. Munchak deserves a second chance to be a Head Coach. He may end up having that in Denver.
Denver will be interviewing more candidates for their opening. They are looking for a coach who has experience and both Munchak and Pagano bring many years of it. Denver could also be looking to trade for Baltimore Ravens’ Head Coach John Harbaugh. Denver has many options on who they will hire. Hopefully the next coach will lead the Broncos into the playoffs in the next few years and maybe bring a Super Bowl victory back to the Mile High City.
