Landing Spots For Suspended Wide Receiver Antonio Brown

By Jordan Long

Wide receiver Antonio Brown will be suspended the first 8 games of the NFL season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy assuming, of course,  the season can be played.   There are few teams who could be interested in him including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,  Green Bay Packers, and Seattle Seahawks.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers don’t make a lot of sense for Brown.  They have wide receivers who make plays for quarterback Tom Brady.  These are Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.  Those will be the two big targets for Brady.  They can catch the football to gain yards for first downs and longer.    Brady also will toss the football to tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Adding Brown doesn’t make a lot of sense.   Brown doesn’t fit in the offense especially with Evans and Godwin.  Brown may not see a lot of footballs thrown his way.  If that happens he could complain and it wouldn’t be worth the headache for 8 games.

Green Bay and Seattle make more sense.  Green Bay has one of the top quarterbacks in the game in Aaron Rodgers.   The wide receiver core is weak with only one veteran in Davante Adams.    After that it isn’t strong.  Rodgers doesn’t need a strong wide receiver core because he looks for everyone to catch the football.

Adding Brown could take the pressure off of Adams.  When he is double covered, Brown might be wide open.  These may be large chunks of yards for the Packers to move the chains.  Defenses would need to key on Brown.

On the current Seattle Seahawks’ roster, the only veteran is Tyler Lockett.  They do have depth, but they need another experienced wide receiver.  Brown adds that to the roster.  He can play opposite of Lockett.  Quarterback Russell Wilson needs another playmaker.  Brown adds that.

The biggest problem with Brown, besides his off the field issues, is what kind of shape he is in.  He hasn’t played a single game since week 1 of last year when he was with New England.  That is a lot of time off.   A team may take a risk.  It might not be worth it because who knows if he can behave off the field but his play might help a team.
