After media and fan criticism, the NFL Hall Of Fame will allow Sydney Seau to speak about her father, Junior Seau. It won’t be the speech she wanted to give, but will be interview questions on stage after the unveiling of his bronze statue. This is their solution to her being able to talk about her father.
According to ESPN, Hall Of Fame president David Baker said, “Our goal is to maintain our policy regarding enshrinement speeches but also show compassion and understanding.” The Hall of Fame also said, “Sydney will be given a chance to share thoughts about her father immediately following the unveiling of his bronzed bust. The unveiling, which typically features just the presenter and enshrinee, will include Sydney and Junior’s three sons. Her remarks will be live and onstage, in a fashion similar to interviews of returning Hall of Famers.”
The NFL Hall Of Fame still didn’t make the right decision. Why is it that all other players who will be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame receive a speech but yet Junior Seau doesn’t? Seau only has a video and then has his daughter answer questions.
What is the harm in letting her make a speech? She was going to talk about what her father meant to her. We might have seen a different side of Junior Seau. Instead fans will hear questions and answers about him.
They aren’t honoring Junior Seau like they should. Other players are going to have an induction speaker, a video, the bronze statue, and then the Hall Of Famer speaking. The NFL Hall Of Fame is trying to make the right decision by allowing Sydney Seau to answer questions. This is a resolution but not the right one.
What do you think of the NFL Hall of Fame letting Sydney Seau answer questions about her father?
