Kapri Bibbs Poised To Make The Denver Broncos’ Roster

NFL training camps are in full swing. Position battles will heat up during camp and in preseason games. It’s no different in Denver. One such competition is for the backup running back position.

Denver already knows who will be the top running backs on the team. C.J. Anderson will be the starter. Last year he ran for 849 yards and eight touchdowns, leading the Broncos backfield. He was named to the Pro Bowl. Montee Ball is second on the depth chart having run for only 172 yards and one touchdown. Ball was supposed to compete to be the Broncos starter last year. A groin injury limited him to only five games. This opened the door for other running backs to receive playing time. Ronnie Hillman took the most of his opportunity rushing for 434 yards and 3 touchdowns. Even Juwan Thompson carried the ball with 3 touchdowns.

There is one running back on the Broncos who believes he has a chance to make the roster, Kapri Bibbs. Bibbs is a local, playing his college career at Colorado State University (CSU). He rushed for a school record 1,741 yards and 31 touchdowns in his only season with the Rams. He had an excellent preseason last year running for 84 yards and 3 touchdowns, but the Broncos decided to place him on the practice squad.

Heading into this training camp, Bibbs has a lofty goal. That is to make the Broncos roster.   According to the Coloradoan, Bibs said, “I think it’s going to be a big year for me, even if I have to start off running special teams, doing things that way. I want to prove that I’m the best running back that we do have; that’s my goal, hands down.”

Bibbs has a tall task ahead of him. The Broncos will probably only have three or four running backs on the team and they already know that Ball and Anderson are the two main backs on the roster. That means Bibbs will have to outplay Ronnie Hillman, Juwan Thompson, and Jeremy Stewart. First, Bibbs needs show he can play special teams during the preseason. When he carries the ball, he will have to demonstrate that he is a special player. He seems ready to take the next step and displayed last year he could play in the NFL. It should be interesting to see who will show the Denver Broncos’ coaching staff that they should be on the team.

What do you think of Kapri Bibbs’ chances to make the Broncos’ roster?
