Next Man Up In Seattle, Jimmy Graham Gone

The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 39-30 on Sunday. The win improved the Seahawks record to 6-5. With 13:36 left in the game, tight end Jimmy Graham tore his patellar tendon in his right knee. It will require surgery to repair it, ending his season.

This is a big loss for Seattle. Jimmy Graham is one of the best tight ends in the game. He is a consistent target for Russell Wilson in the end zone because of his size. He can jump to catch passes over cornerbacks and linebackers. Graham caught 48 passes for 605 yards and two touchdowns this year. Those aren’t great numbers for him, but he still was a receiver who Russell Wilson could rely on to make the tough catch.

According to the seattletimes.com, Head Coach Pete Carroll said, “We’ve loved Jimmy Graham coming to our team and we are very grateful that he has been a part of it and we are going to miss the heck out of him the rest of the season.”

ESPN stated that wide receiver Doug Baldwin said, “It’s heartbreaking. One of the reasons why is because Jimmy works so hard, and the type of person he is in our locker room, everybody loves him. You never want to see anybody go down, and if they do, hopefully it’s not a season-ending injury.”

The Seattle Seahawks will miss Graham’s productivity on the field. They now need to go with Luke Wilson. Wilson only has 12 receptions for 152 yards and one touchdown. Wilson isn’t the player that Jimmy Graham is because he is more of a blocking tight end. It will be difficult for Seattle to replace Jimmy Graham but the old saying is “next man up”.

How will the loss of Jimmy Graham effect the Seattle Seahawks for the rest of the season?
