The Anaheim Ducks are in the midst of a 12 game losing streak. This puts them in 4th place in the Pacific Division, 2 points behind the Minnesota Wild for the 2nd Wild Card spot. The Ducks decided to shake up their team in hopes of turning their season around. They traded forward Andrew Cogliano to the Dallas Stars for forward Devin Shore.
The Ducks expected Cogliano to be the skater he was last season when he scored 12 goals and added 23 assists for total of 35 points. It didn’t happen. Cogliano struggled to put the puck in the net for the Ducks and create scoring chances. He had 3 goals and 8 assists for 11 points.
Anaheim couldn’t wait any longer for Cogliano to regain his scoring touch. They feel their season is slipping away and made a trade to bring in Shore. Shore isn’t having a much better year but has more points than Cogliano with 17. Shore will use his speed to feed his teammates for scoring chances. He can also skate around the defenseman to score. Shore is also going to screen the goaltender for tip-ins for goals. He should improve the Ducks offense.
On the other hand, the Stars are excited to bring in Cogliano. According to ESPN, Dallas Stars’ General Manager Jim Nill said, “In acquiring Andrew, we are able to add a conscientious player who brings a veteran presence to our room. His explosive speed, 200-foot game and iron-man mentality will help our team both on and off the ice.”
Cogliano will help the Stars on offense. They already have scorers in Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn, and Jason Spezza. Adding Cogliano will take the pressure off of them to score goals. The Stars sit as the 1st Wild Card team with 50 points. This should help them make a run at the postseason even if they make it as the Wild Card team.
This was a fair trade for both teams. They each added an offensive player who might make a difference in earing a playoff spot. If they both reach the playoffs, this trade might have been the turning point of their seasons. locked0 List Ta
