Boston Red Sox Targeting Kyle Schwarber, The Cubs Shouldn’t Deal Him So Soon

By Jordan Long

The Boston Red Sox were unable to make a deal for outfielder Giancarlo Stanton. The Red Sox are still looking to improve the outfield. They are targeting Chicago Cubs’ outfielder Kyle Schwarber.

Schwarber is younger than Stanton at 24 years old. He would come at a cheaper price. His contract last season was $565,500. It will be close to that this upcoming year. Schwarber is a decent hitter with a career average of .222. He is not a home run hitter but is able to drive in runs and move players around into scoring position.

The Red Sox don’t want him because of his ability to hit the baseball but his fielding. Schwarber can play all the positions of the outfield and 1st base. He rarely makes an error and has a strong arm to throw batters out trying to advance. Last season he had 5 errors in the outfield but added 7 outfield assists.

According to ESPN’s Scott Lauber stated, “It’s doubtful the Chicago Cubs will trade Schwarber, who hit 30 homers in a down year and remains a favorite of team president Theo Epstein.”

The Cubs shouldn’t make this deal. They know how valuable he is to the team. Schwarber is entering the prime of his career. The Cubs would like to keep him to pair him up with Kris Bryant for years to come. The Cubs might be able to make deep runs in the playoffs with both of them. It would be a shame to see the Cubs give up on him after three years. That is not enough time to figure out if he will become a decent player.   The winter meetings will determine his future

What do you think of the Boston Red Sox interest in Kyle Schwarber?
