Brock Osweiler Gets The Nod To Start This Weekend Against New England

The Denver Broncos knocked off the Chicago Bears 17-15 on Sunday in quarterback Brock Osweiler’s first career start. The win improved the Denver Broncos’ record to 8-2. Osweiler finished the game 20 of 27 for 250 yards with two touchdowns. He didn’t turn the ball over. The Broncos announced on Monday Osweiler would make another start against the New England Patriots.

Brock Osweiler played well on Sunday. He was able to move the chains for first downs and found wide open receivers. The only problem in the game was sacks. Osweiler was sacked 5 times, the offensive line didn’t do their job of protecting him. Some of those sacks where when Bears defensive players were unblocked but Osweiler never forced the ball down the field.

There was speculation following this game Peyton Manning would start after dealing with a partially torn plantar fascia in his left foot. That hasn’t gotten better and Manning will get a second opinion. ESPN stated that Head Coach Gary Kubiak said, “We encourage all our players to get a second opinion on those types of things.”

This is the right decision. Manning isn’t 100% and Osweiler is the healthier of the two quarterbacks. He looked comfortable in the offense against the Bears. The Broncos are in excellent shape because the offense never skipped a beat with Manning out. According to CBSsports.com, Head Coach Gary Kubiak said, “He can do everything. He’s a very composed young man and the more he plays, I think, the better he’s going to get.”

The best choice for Manning and the Broncos is for him to heal. The Broncos don’t need him out on the field now since they have a big lead in the AFC West.   Osweiler proved against the Bears he can lead this team. Manning’s job right now is to hopefully get healthy and be ready for the playoffs. They need him for the playoffs to help this team go far.

What do you think of the decision to start Osweiler for a second consecutive week?

    • I do think the Broncos should sign him long term. He looked great against the Bears. New England is a tougher game but if he wins, he might be the next starting QB next year but that is assuming Manning retires. Then again Elway has a plan.
