Bruce Bochy’s Last Season As San Francisco Giants’ Manager

By Jordan Long

The San Francisco Giants are well into Spring Training in Arizona.  Their first Cactus League game is tomorrow against the Los Angeles Angels.  This is the last year the Giants will have Bruce Bochy as their Manager.  He announced his plans to retire at the conclusion of the season. According to sfgate.com, Bochy said, “In my mind, it’s time. I’ve managed with my gut. I came up here in 2007 on my gut, and so it’s my gut feeling that it’s time. It’s been an unbelievable ride.”

Bochy has been the Giants’ manager since the 2007 season.  Before taking the job he was with the San Diego Padres for 12 years.  Bochy wasn’t successful with the Padres in those seasons.  He went 951-975, a winning percentage of .494.  The Padres made the postseason 4 times with him and even made a trip to the World Series in 1998, only to be swept by the New York Yankees.

The Giants were hoping Bochy was their answer to win a World Series title.  They hadn’t made the World Series since 1989 when they lost to the Oakland Athletics.  They hadn’t won the whole thing since 1954 when they were still in New York as the New York Giants.

Bochy has turned this team into a winner in his time in San Francisco.  Heading into this season they are  975-969, a winning percentage of .502.  The Giants have made the postseason 4 times with him and captured the National League West Division 2 times.  In the playoffs, they managed to make it all the way to the World Series 3 times,  winning all of them.

Bochy knows the time for him is up.  There is nothing left for him to prove as an MLB manager.  His resume shows this.  He will go down as one of the best managers in San Francisco history.   The Giants are hoping they can make the postseason and win a World Series this year.  This would be the perfect storybook ending for Bochy. 00000000fffffff
