Carson Wentz Tears His ACL, Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl Hopes Rest On Nick Foles

By Jordan Long

The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Los Angeles Rams 43-35 improving their record to 11-2, clinching the NFC East. During the game they were dealt a large blow to their Super Bowl aspirations. Starting quarterback Carson Wentz left the game in the third quarter. It was feared he tore his ACL. On Monday, an MRI confirmed the tear and Wentz will miss the rest of the season.

Wentz was having a career year, throwing for 3,296 yards and 33 touchdowns. He was reading the defenses and throwing the football where his receiver could catch it. Wentz protected the football with 7 interceptions and 4 fumbles. He rarely threw into double coverage. His play was the reason the Eagles are one of the top teams in the NFL. Wentz was considered an MVP candidate.

According to ESPN, Head Coach Doug Pederson said, “If there’s ever an opportunity for me to rally the troops as the football coach, now might be the time,” You can’t lose faith. This has been a resilient football team all season long.”

This is an enormous loss for the Eagles. They were playing top notch football with Wentz at quarterback. Now they turn to Nick Foles who will be the starter the rest of the season.

Foles is a decent quarterback. He has played 6 years in the NFL. Foles passed for 98 yards in the win, proving he can lead this team. He will find open receivers and read the defenses. Foles may take more risks than Wentz by throwing into double coverage which may be picked off. Foles can learn from his mistakes.

The Eagles are lucky to have a veteran quarterback on the roster. The Eagles are in an excellent position for a bye week in the Wild-Card round. It will be up to Foles’ play for them to make a Super Bowl run.

What do you think of the Philadelphia Eagles turning to quarterback Nick Foles for the rest of the season?
