College Football Hall of Fame Calling for Peyton Manning and Steve Spurrier

The College Football Hall Of Fame ballot came out on Wednesday. There are 17 new candidates including Peyton Manning and Steve Spurrier. Do they deserve to be in the College Football Hall of Fame?

We all know Peyton Manning had a storied NFL career. Manning won two Super Bowls, one with the Denver Broncos and one with the Indianapolis Colts. When he retired from the NFL, he was number one in passing touchdowns, passing yards, and wins in a career.

Before the NFL, he played his college football for the Tennessee Volunteers. Manning was the starter at Tennessee for 4 years. In those seasons he threw for 11,201 yards, 89 touchdowns, and 33 interceptions. His passing yardage ranks 48th all-time on the NCAA passing list and is tied for 38th in touchdown passes. Those are decent numbers for a college football quarterback and helped him be the #1 pick in the NFL Draft in 1998.

Manning should be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The numbers tell his story. He was one of the best college football quarterbacks when he played. Manning deserves this honor.

Steve Spurrier, who’s nickname is the “Head Ball Coach”, is also on the ballot this year.   Spurrier coached for three teams during his college football career, Duke, Florida, and South Carolina.   He coached Duke from 1987 to 1989 where his record was 20-13-1. Spurrier became well know while coaching the Florida Gators.   He had an impressive overall record of 122-27-1 and led them to six SEC titles and one National Championship in 1996.

Spurrier might have made the worst mistake of his career when he decided to coach the Washington Redskins in 2002 to 2003. The Redskins went 12-20 in those two years. Spurrier returned to college football with South Carolina from 2009 to 2015.

Spurrier ended his amazing career with a total record of 228-89-2. His wins are 13th all time in Division 1 college football history. Spurrier was an excellent coach who always seemed to have winning programs. He might have only won one national championship but his teams always played hard even, if the wins weren’t there. Spurrier deserves this highest honor.

According to ESPN, the ballot includes 75 players and six coaches from Division 1 football on the ballot. It also has 95 players and 29 coaches who competed outside Division 1.   The announcement for the College Football Hall Of Fame will be on January 6, 2017. Hopefully, Payton Manning and Steve Spurrier will be inducted.

What do you think the chances are of Steve Spurrier and Peyton Manning being inducted into the College Football Hall Of Fame?
