The Colorado Rockies were dealt a huge blow to their lineup. Rookie shortstop Trevor Story will miss the remainder of the regular season due to season ending thumb surgery on his torn ulnar collateral ligament. He might return if the Rockies reach the postseason.
Trevor Story has been one of the Rockies’ top hitters this season, hitting .272 with 27 home runs and 72 RBI’s. His 27 home runs are leading the Rockies and the entire National League. Story is a big part of the offense. When Story is at the plate, teams have to be careful pitching to him because if they make one mistake the ball could be gone. He is 6th in runs scored and RBI’s in the National League. His presence in the lineup takes pressure off Nolan Arenado and Carlos Gonzalez. Story was well on his way to winning the National League Rookie Of The Year.
Story is one of Colorado’s best fielders. When a ball is hit up the middle, he will do whatever he can to field it and fire it over to first. Story has an accurate arm and rarely misses throwing the ball to first base.
The Colorado Rockies can’t replace Story on defense. They will try but he is so invaluable. When the Rockies are up to bat, they are going to need to find more offense besides Arenado and Gonzalez. This will be difficult because of what Story brings to the team.
Colorado must move forward and try to make a push to the postseason. They are in a decent position for a run in August and September. If they fall short, hopefully it won’t be because Trevor Story wasn’t in the lineup.
How do you think the loss of Trevor Story will affect the Colorado Rockies the rest of the season?
