Cornerback Brian Poole Trying Out For New England, Hoping To Earn A Contract

By Jordan Long

The New England Patriots are preparing to take on the New York Jets on Sunday.  New England is looking to improve on their 2-4 record.  They are also trying to end their 4 game home losing streak.  New England decided to bring in cornerback Brian Poole for a workout.  They haven’t signed him to a contract and that may be coming soon.

The New England defense hasn’t been great all season.  They have allowed teams to go up and down the field to move the chains for first downs or longer.  New England has given up 359.2 yards per game, ranking 17th in the NFL.  When it comes to stopping the pass, New England allows 246.3 yards per game, 16th in the NFL.  They have also given up 21.2 points per game. Looking at just those stats, New England is lucky to be 2-4.  Their season could be much worse.

The Patriots know they could always use depth at the cornerback position.  The depth could make a difference for them plus adding another one may help them knock the ball away from being completed or pick it off for turnovers. New England brought in Brian Poole for a workout to possibly add another cornerback to the position.

Poole started the year with the New Orleans Saints but never appeared in  a game for them and was placed on injured reserve. He was cut from the roster on October 12th which meant Poole was a free agent in hopes of playing again this year.

New England is familiar with Poole. Poole played for the New York Jets from 2019 to 2020.  During that time, he had 103 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 12 passes defended.  In his 5 year career, Poole totaled 300 tackles, 6 sacks, 7 interceptions, and 31 passes defended.

New England should sign Poole to the roster.  He can be a corner to improve this defense with his play.   Poole might be the answer at cornerback for them to turn their season around.
