DeMarcus Ware Hired By The Denver Broncos As Pass-Rush Consultant

By Jordan Long

The Denver Broncos are into mandatory minicamp. Once minicamp is done, training camp will open in July. The Broncos weren’t done making changes to the coaching staff, hiring DeMarcus Ware as the pass-rush consultant. It is a part-time job but this gives Ware a taste of what it is like to be a coach.

According to ESPN, Head Coach Vance Joseph said, “Obviously, he played with these guys. They have great respect for DeMarcus. He’s got so much knowledge when it comes to pass rush, not just for the outside guys but for the inside guys also, [defensive end Derek] Wolfe and those guys. It was good to have him out here and hopefully we can get him back in a couple weeks.”

The Broncos were smart with this hire. Ware brings 12 years of NFL playing experience to the coaching staff. In those seasons he was able to total 138.5 sacks ranking him 8th on the All-Time list.

The Broncos know putting pressure on the quarterbacks might be the difference in field position. When quarterbacks are being rushed, they will either be sacked or throw it sooner than they want to. When this occurs, it increases the chances of interceptions and turnovers.

Ware will use his knowledge to help the defense make plays. Ware helped Von Miller when Ware was in Denver from 2014 to 2016. His guidance made Miller the sack artist he is today. They are hoping he can do the same for rookie Bradley Chubb.

The Broncos are lucky to hire Ware. There aren’t many teams who have a coach like him. Hopefully Denver is improved from a year ago when they took down quarterbacks 33 times. On paper adding Ware to the coaching staff is a great move.
