Denver Broncos Add Depth To The Cornerback Position, Bring In Adam “Pacman” Jones

By Jordan Long

The Denver Broncos are preparing to take on the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday to wrap up the preseason schedule. Denver decided to add depth at cornerback this week, bringing in Adam “Pacman” Jones. He agreed to a 1-year deal worth $1 million.

Denver needed veteran leadership at the cornerback position. Chris Harris Jr. is the top cornerback and figures to be on the opponents’ top receiver. On the opposite side of him is Bradley Roby who is in his 5th season in the NFL but 1st as the starting cornerback. Both of them can knock passes away and pick the ball off.

After Harris and Roby, Tramaine Brock will see some time on the field. He enters his 9th NFL season with11 interceptions. He should cover the slot receiver.

Brendan Langley is the last cornerback on the depth chart. He doesn’t have much NFL experience. This is his 2nd NFL season. He appeared in 11 games last year but didn’t do that much with only 3 tackles.

Jones figures to help this defense. He has 11 years in the NFL. Jones should be the 3rd cornerback on the depth chart. He is able to take down opponents in the open field and rarely misses a tackle. When Jones is in coverage, he plays tight defense on the wide receiver which makes it difficult for the quarterback to complete a pass. He will tip it away or intercept it. Jones has a total of 16 interceptions in his career.

Jones is an upgrade for the Broncos. Denver hopes he can be a model citizen. He has been in trouble throughout his NFL career with off the field character issues. According to ESPN, Head Coach Vance Joseph said, “It’s two parts, it’s football character, and I’ve coached him two seasons and his football character is A-plus. He’s great in meetings, he’s great in the locker room, he’s played a long time in this league. OK, now, personal character, we all know the background, he would even acknowledge as a young guy he made some mistakes, but he’s paid for every mistake. … Obviously it was his own doing, but he’s matured … he wants to win football games.”

Denver is hoping Jones is an upgrade to the secondary. It seems like he will fit in well with the team but only time will tell. Hopefully he can contribute and help them become a winning football team.
