The Denver Broncos take on the Seattle Seahawks tonight. This marks the Broncos’ 2nd preseason game while this is Seattle’s opener. This will be the 1st time Denver will see quarterback Joe Flacco under center since he didn’t play last week. He is expected to play a quarter at most, after that it will be backups. There are a few players who need to improve their game.
The Broncos saw last week what Drew Lock could do. He had trouble throwing the football and gaining yards. It wasn’t all his fault because some of his receivers stopped running when the ball was in the air causing overthrows. He ended 7 for 11 for 34 yards. Luck is likely going to play the second half.
He must show improvement tonight. The way Luck will display that is finding the open receiver. If he keeps overthrowing and not using the whole field to look for an open man to pass to, this will not show growth. The Broncos need him to show he is growing at the NFL level. The Broncos have 3 more preseason games and it might be he starts the season as the 3rd quarterback on the depth chart. There is still time for him to beat out Kevin Hogan.
There is a Broncos’ running back to keep an eye on in this game, Khalfani Muhammad. He showed what he could do last week in the running game, rushing for 50 yards on 7 carries. When he touched the ball, he used his speed to outrun the defenders. It took a while for the defense to catch up to him and tackle him.
The NFL is a week to week league. Muhammad is a fast runner and he needs to display that again tonight. If he can, Denver will have a difficult time cutting him. There are still plenty more preseason games, but a performance like last week and he may have earned his spot.
Another Bronco to watch tonight is rookie tight end Noah Fant. Fant was the Broncos 1st round pick in this years’ NFL Draft. He didn’t do much last week with 1 catch for 7 yards. He was targeted 3 times. The Broncos expect him to be one of the top tight ends for this team who is going to block for the running backs and catch passes in the open field. He didn’t perform like it in his first NFL game. Tonight Fant needs to demonstrate to the Broncos why he was a high draft pick and make plays for this team to move the chains.
These are just a few of the Denver Broncos’ players to watch tonight. Kickoff is at 8 PM Mountain Time. sdpriority50 \l
