Free Agent Anquan Boldin Available, Is He A Fit For Your NFL Team?

By Jordan Long

Wide receiver Anquan Boldin doesn’t have any plans to retire. He is a free agent wanting to play another NFL season. Should a team take a chance on him?

Boldin has played 14 NFL seasons for 4 different teams, the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, and the Detroit Lions.   Last season was his only year in Detroit. It was Boldin’s worst year as a professional with a career low of 584 receiving yards. Even though the receiving yards weren’t there, he was still able to hall in touchdown passes with 8 which were the most on the team.   In his career Boldin has 13,779 receiving yards and 82 touchdowns.

Boldin would fit in any NFL offense. He can catch passes for first downs or touchdowns. Boldin’s height at 6 foot 1 inch allows him to out jump a defensive back to catch the football. His speed in the open field lets him break tackles from defenders which creates a large gain of yards. Boldin protects the football and rarely allows the defender to take the ball away from him for a fumble.

If a team picks him up, they must realize Boldin’s best days are behind him. He isn’t a number one or two wide-out nor fast enough to be a slot receiver.   He could be a 4th receiver on the depth chart.

The Lions are taking a risk allowing him to test free agency. It is still possible that he could be back with the Lions. There will be a team that will pick him up because he can still play in the NFL and be productive. It’s a matter of time until Boldin signs a contract.

Where do you think Anquan Boldin will play next season?
