Jadeveon Clowney Ready For The Season, Can He Stay On The Field?

The Houston Texans are in OTA’s (offseason team activities). One defender they can’t afford to lose this season is outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney.   According to NFL.com, Clowney said, “I feel great. After two seasons I think I just got healthy enough to be where I need to be.”

Clowney enters his third season with the Texans. The Texans drafted him first overall in the 2014 NFL draft. They were hoping a healthy Clowney would take pressure off J.J. Watt who was their only player who could regularly sack the quarterback.

Injuries were the problem in his rookie year. In the summer he had surgery to repair a sports hernia and he missed two weeks of training camp. During the preseason, he sustained a concussion from a helmet-to-helmet hit during practice against the Denver Broncos.   In the regular season he suited up in four games. Clowney had 7 tackles but he didn’t record a sack.   He suffered a meniscus tear in week one against the Washington Redskins causing him to miss 12 games.

Last season Clowney was better. Clowney didn’t play in the preseason, but appeared in 13 games. He recorded 40 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. He missed a game due to an ankle injury and was held out of the playoff loss against Kansas City because of that inury.

Clowney can be one of the best linebackers for the Texans. He just needs to stay on the field.   The Texans saw flashes of the player they thought they drafted last season. Clowney is a speedy linebacker that can sack the quarterback. If he can stay healthy, Clowney can assist J.J. Watt to be the best pass rushing duo in the NFL. It will be up to Clowney to prove to the Houston Texans that he is ready to play this season. If he is healthy, that could go along way to helping the Texans not only win the division but win a playoff game.

What would a healthy Jadeveon Clowney bring to the Houston Texans?
