Josh McDaniels Turns Down The San Francisco 49ers Head Coaching Job, Who Will Be The Next Head Coach Of the 49ers?

By Jordan Long

The San Francisco 49ers are the only team left without a head coach. They were hoping that Josh McDaniels would fill the void but he turned them down. According to ESPN, McDaniels said, “They did a great job with their presentation, Again, humbled to be included in that process. At this time, it’s just best for my family and myself to remain here in New England, and focus on this year’s playoffs and finish out the year however it turns out.”

Josh McDaniels is making the right decision. The San Francisco 49ers isn’t a top job in the NFL. The biggest problem is the owner, Jed York. York wants to win right now and is not tolerant with head coaches. If McDaniels took the job, he wouldn’t be given enough time to turn the San Francisco 49ers into a winner and might have lasted a year or two.

The 49ers are now hoping that Kyle Shanahan will accept the position. Shanahan’s offense would work in San Francisco with Colin Kaepernick as the quarterback. Kaepernick can run the bootleg and find open receivers. This could also open up their running game.

The problem with hiring Shanahan is he doesn’t have experience as an NFL head coach. He has been a decent coordinator. York would have to be patient with him because it may take a few years for the 49ers to understand Shanahan’s offense.

Shanahan is focused on the Green Bay Packers. The 49ers have to wait to discuss the head coaching position with Shanahan once the Atlanta Falcons season is over. It could be over as early as next Sunday or as late as February 5th. San Francisco may not wait that long to hire a coach. Time will only tell who will take the job to be the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

Who should be the next head coach of the San Francisco 49ers?
