Landing Spots For Allen Robinson If Chicago Trades The Wide Receiver

By Jordan Long

Chicago Bears’ wide receiver Allen Robinson is in the last year of his contract.  He is going to make around $13 million before becoming a free agent at the end of the season.  The Bears have talked to him about a new deal but talks are not going well.  There are conflicting reports that he has asked for a trade.  He is either going to stay for the rest of the year or be delt.

There are a few teams that could be interested in acquiring the wide receiver including the Washington Football Team, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, and the Philadelphia Eagles.  Washington could use Robinson.  The veteran of their wide receiver core is Dontrelle Inman who is in his 7th year.  He has yet to go over the 1,000 yard receiving mark in his career.  Robinson has done that twice. The other top wide receivers are Terry McLaurin and Steven Sims Jr.  McLaurin and Sims are in their 2nd year in the NFL.

Washington should add Robinson.  They don’t have a true #1 wide receiver or a deep threat for quarterback Dwayne Haskins.  Robinson fixes that need.  Haskins could look for him early and often which may help Washington move the chains.

New England already has a #1 wide receiver in Julian Edelman.  After him the core is weak.  New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick should consider acquiring Robison.  He needs another deep threat.  Defenses can shutdown Edelman.  When they cover him, quarterback Cam Newton doesn’t have another wide receiver to throw the ball to.  Adding Robinson makes the defense have to choose which wide receiver to cover leaving the other open.

Seattle’s wide receiver core includes Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf.  Adding Robinson could be key for them.  If they do trade for him, Lockett or Metcalf would be in the slot.  Robinson might be the 1st option for Russell Wilson.  These wide receivers may give defenses mismatches because of their speed.  Wilson would then have 3 wide receivers to throw the ball to which could end up in large chunks of yards.  It could be the difference in them winning the NFC West division.

The Philadelphia Eagles are the only team that doesn’t make sense as a landing spot.  They have two veteran wide receivers in Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson.  They line up opposite of each other.  Robison isn’t a fit.  There wouldn’t be enough footballs to go around.  If these receivers aren’t getting enough touches, they may possibly complain which can derail the season.

The best case for the Bears is they reach an agreement with Robison during the year or before free agency otherwise they will trade him.  At least dealing him the Bears will receive something back even if it is a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.   Time will tell if Robison’s time in Chicago is running out.
