Martavis Bryant Trade Request, Will The Pittsburgh Steelers Deal Him?

By Jordan Long

The NFL trade deadline is October 31st. One player who has requested a trade is Pittsburgh Steelers’ wide receiver Martavis Bryant. According to ESPN, the trade request was made weeks ago. He is unhappy about his production in the Steelers’ offense. Should they really consider trading him?

Bryant missed all of last year because of a suspension for failing the league’s substance abuse policy. They were hoping he would come back and be the dominant receiver he was in 2015 when he had 765 yards receiving and 6 touchdowns. His presence was going to take pressure off of Antonio Brown. Defenses were going to need to cover both of them.

His season hasn’t been that bad to this point. He has 17 receptions for 231 yards, an outstanding yards per catch of 13.6 with one touchdown. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is trying to find him early and often. The problem has been the defenses. They are covering him and not allowing Roethlisberger to throw his way forcing Roethlisberger to toss the football to other receivers.

If Bryant wants to move on to another team, then the Steelers should find a trade partner. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to keep a player on the team who is unhappy. They shouldn’t make an agreement with a team in the division or in the AFC.

The Steelers may not want to deal him because of what he brings to the team. Bryant is able to catch the football and gain yards. Those yards are for first downs or touchdowns. Once the season progresses, Bryant’s numbers will go up. He needs to let the season play out. If he is still unhappy at the end of the year then request a trade. Hopefully the Steelers keep him and Bryant ends up having a career year.

What do you think of Martavis Bryant. requesting a trade from the Steelers?
