Mets Fire Manager Luis Rojas After Another Disappointing Season

The New York Mets are going to have a new manager for the 2022 season.  New York finished the year 77-85, 3rd in the National League East Division.  After the poor showing, they decided it was time to let Manager Luis Rojas go after two disappointing seasons.  It was also the 5th year in a row they failed to earn a playoff spot.

                The Mets went into the season with high hopes.  They were anticipating being competitive. New York even led the National League East Division from May 1st to August 5th.  On August 7th, they dropped to 57-54, one game back of Philadelphia.  They went 20-61 the rest of the year.  The Atlanta Braves won the division with a record of 88-73.  The Mets were 11.5 games behind them.

                The strength of the team was pitching.  The total team ERA was 3.90, 9th in MLB. The starting pitching did their job to keep the Mets in games with an ERA of 3.89.  Rojas could trust the bullpen.  When he switched pitchers, the relievers kept them in games with an ERA of 3.90. 

                The New York Mets offense was the reason for their downfall.  They ended with a .238 batting average, 20th in MLB.  They were one of the worst teams when it came to home runs, smacking 176,  25th in MLB.  The offense couldn’t get going or hit the base hit to score a run.

                The Mets still failed to earn a playoff spot.   It was time to start over with a new manager in 2022.  According to theguardian.com, team President Sandy Alderson said, “The entire Mets organization is grateful for the dedication and devotion that Luis has exhibited over the last two seasons as manager.  He has shown a great commitment to the Mets over many years in multiple capacities. These decisions are never easy, but we feel a change is needed at this time.”

                New York will start a search for a new manager to take over the team.  There could be more changes to come to the coaching staff.  Time will only tell.  The Mets want a manager who can take this team to the postseason.  The last time they went to the World Series was in 2015 when they were defeated by the Kansas City Royals.  New York hasn’t won the World Series since 1986.  They hope the next manager can end that drought.
