The Nashville Predators kept one of their bright young stars. They agreed to a 6-year $36 million contract with Filip Forsberg which will pay him $6 million a year. This will keep him in a Predators uniform until 2022. This was a smart move by the Predators.
Forsberg is only 21 years old, turning 22 in August. He finished his fourth year in the NHL, all in Nashville. Forsberg has been one of the top centers for the Predators. Last season was his best in the NHL. Forsberg scored 33 goals and added 31 assists for a total of 64 points which led Nashville. With his help, Nashville ended the season 41-27-14 with 96 points, the first Wild Card team in the Western Conference. In the playoffs, Forsberg scored two goals and added two assists.
Forsberg was set to be a restricted free agent on July 1st. Nashville knew he was too valuable to let another team talk to him. According to NHL.com, General Manager David Polie said, “Filip is among the most skilled, dynamic talents we’ve ever had in the organization and is an integral part of our success for the next six years and beyond.”
The Predators needed to keep Forsberg. He can kill off penalties, score goals on the power play, and is one of the Predators’ fastest skaters on full strength. Forsberg can do it all. Opponents must watch out for him because he can score and he has the speed to create breakaways.
Nashville knows how valuable Forsberg is and rewarded him. The Predators are hoping to win a cup with him as the core player. The future is bright with him. The next step for the Nashville Predators and Forsberg is to bring a Stanley Cup to the city.
What do you think of the Nashville Predators keeping Filip Forsberg?
As far as I can tell, one player won’t win the Cup. It is a team sport, multiple great players win Cups.
That is true but you need a star player or at least one that is consistent to get you into the playoffs. Thanks for the comment Jason.
