The Oklahoma City Thunder have some help for the playoff push. They agreed to a deal with swingman Corey Brewer once he clears waivers. This reunites him with his college coach, Billy Donavan. Brewer played under him in 2006 and 2007 at the University of Florida.
The Lakers decided to cut him on Wednesday after 54 games. Brewer wasn’t playing well this season. He averaged 12.9 minutes. Brewer was productive with 3.7 points per game. The Lakers weren’t a fit .
Brewer will solidify the Thunder’s playoff aspirations. They sit in the 7th seed at 36-27 in the tight Western Conference. Brewer can play on both ends of the floor. On offense he cuts to the basket for easy points, scores from outside, and passes to his teammates for open looks. In his career Brewer averages 8.8 points and 1.5 assists per game.
On the defensive end Brewer doesn’t allow easy baskets. Opposing players earn their points when they drive on him. Brewer can also box out to not allow the opponents second chance points. He averages 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.
The Thunder needed to make this move. They are without Andre Roberson who ruptured his patellar tendon on January 27th in a game against the Pistons. Roberson was their best defender who averaged 4.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. Brewer is going to make up for that.
The Thunder are a complete team with Brewer. They have a chance to move up in the standings. Hopefully with this addition the Thunder will improve and have an easier matchup in the 1st round of the NBA playoffs.
What do you think of the addition of Corey Brewer?
