Point Guard Tony Parker Is A Free Agent, The Denver Nuggets A Landing Spot?

By Jordan Long

Point guard Tony Parker is a free agent. He has spent 17 years with the San Antonio Spurs. The Denver Nuggets are among several teams interested in signing the veteran.

Parker’s top days in the NBA are behind him and he is mostly a bench player. He can still be a backup in the league. Last year he showed his age. Parker had his worst year on offense scoring 7.7 points per game while averaging a career low 19.5 minutes. He was still able to set up the offense and feed his teammates for easy buckets with 3.5 assists per game.

The Nuggets could use his veteran presence. They are a young team and his knowledge of the NBA game may help them improve on their 46 wins last season.     Parker is able to describe what he is seeing out on the court and how the team could attack the opponents to win basketball games.

Denver is in need of a point guard since the only one on the current roster is Jamal Murray. If Denver were to agree to a deal with Parker, he would backup Murray.   Parker would see playing time when Murray needs a rest. He may not score many points, but he will be able to set up the offense and help guide this team to a playoff spot. Denver has missed out on the postseason by one game the last two seasons.

On the other hand, Parker is way past his prime at 36 years old. Denver would be taking a chance on him. Who knows how many games he is able to play. He appeared in a career low 55 games last year.

Parker will decide where the best place is for him to finish up his NBA career. Denver doesn’t seem like the right landing spot.   They are better off without him but they need to sign a point guard to add depth to the position.
