The Denver Broncos will be in the market for a veteran quarterback. All the talk has been about Kirk Cousins. A quarterback Denver should take a look at is AJ McCarron.
McCarron just became a free agent after winning a grievance against the Cincinnati Bengals. He is free to sign with any team. McCarron only appeared in 10 games, starting 3. In 2015, he went 2-1 as Cincinnati’s starter, helping them reach the postseason. He replaced Andy Dalton who was out with a fractured thumb. In those games McCarron was able to throw and protect the ball well. Cincinnati made the postseason, winning the AFC North. He passed for 854 yards, 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Cincinnati hosted the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card round. In that game McCarron was average, throwing for 212 yards and 1 touchdown while he was intercepted once and fumbled twice. Unfortunately, Cincinnati fell to Pittsburgh 18-16. n his career McCarron has tossed for 920 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions in the regular season.
McCarron fits with the Broncos. He is younger than Kirk Cousins at 27. With the Broncos he will have 2 top-notch wide receivers to throw to assuming they keep both Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. McCarron is able to read the defenses and pass the ball to both of them and make plays for first downs or touchdowns.
McCarron will be the cheaper quarterback for the Broncos. He won’t want a contract of $28 million a year which is what Cousins might possibly receive in free agency. He may be worth $10 to $15 million a year, allowing John Elway to save money with a quarterback that is a little bit more proven than what they have on the roster.
The Broncos are in a big need for a quarterback. McCarron might fill that void. Once free agency starts, the Broncos should call McCarron. He could be the answer to them making the playoffs next year. Of course John Elway will do what is best for the team. Adding McCarron makes sense.
What do you think of the Denver Broncos possibly signing AJ McCarron?
