The Seattle Seahawks finished the 2021 season at a disappointing 7-10. Seattle is looking at ways to improve the team for 2022. One player may not be there, quarterback Russell Wilson. He would like to explore his options and maybe even be traded from Seattle.
Wilson wants to be in a place where he feels he is successful. There are going to be plenty of teams interested in the quarterback because of what he could bring to the table. Wilson is 33 years old. He has at least 5 years left in the NFL but could play more than that. The Denver Broncos make a lot of sense.
The Broncos have one of the best young receiving cores in the league including wide receivers Tim Patrick, Courtland Sutton, and Jerry Jeudy. Tight end Noah Fant is also a playmaker. When Fant has his hands on the ball, he can run for first downs and longer. KJ Hamler is another receiver who can play the slot but he hasn’t shown to be able to stay healthy. When healthy he is another weapon on offense. On the ground, Javonte Williams can help the Broncos by running the football and blocking a blitzer.
Wilson might be able to buy time in the pocket to find them. His ability to run with his legs and move the chains for the Broncos. The downside is the Broncos need to upgrade the offensive line even if that quarterback is Wilson. The Broncos gave up 40 sacks this year not counting the times a quarterback was hit trying to throw the football. The Seattle offense was a little worse, allowing 46 sacks. Even so, that is a little better than Seattle.
The Broncos have the draft picks to trade for Russell Wilson this year. Besides a 1st round pick, Denver has two 2nd-round selections, two 3rd-round picks, a 4th-round, two in the 5th round, one in the 6th, and two in the 7th. Denver may offer Seattle 2nd or 3rd round picks for Wilson as well as some other selections in other draft years. This may not be enough because Seattle would like 1st-round picks in not only this years’ draft but future years as well. The Broncos should place a call just to see what the price is for Wilson. How could it hurt? Who knows, maybe Seattle would agree to send Wilson to the Mile High City.
The only downside to Denver is they will have a new Head Coach. They are interviewing for their vacancy which may tell Wilson to stay away.
Wilson is just going to see what is out there for him. He may still stay in Seattle. According to NFL.com, Wilson said, “We’ve always thought I would be here. That’s been always my goal, to win multiple Super Bowls, and my plan is to be here and do that. You take every day and you just enjoy the moment.”
Wilson is starting to be at the tail end of his career. Who knows how many more seasons he will play at a high level. Of course, he would like that 2nd Super Bowl. Looking at his options isn’t the worst idea because he can see what is out there. In the end, though, he may just stay in Seattle.
