Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa Decision Coming Monday About The 2020 NFL Draft

The 2020 NFL draft starts on April 23rd.  Plenty of college football athletes have declared they will be entering the draft.  There is one who is trying to decide what he should do, Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.  He will announce his decision on Monday.

Heading into this past college football season, Tagovailoa was expected to be the 1st pick in the draft.  If he wasn’t selected 1st, he was going to be chosen in the top 15.  Experts liked how he played the college game.   Tagovailoa is a quarterback who can throw a football in the pocket or on the run.  He can also use his legs to run for first downs.

Tagovailoa had a pretty decent year at the quarterback position.  He was projected to be in the Heisman Trophy race before the season started.  In 9 games, Tagovailoa passed for 2,840 yards and 33 touchdowns.  He protected the ball and rarely threw the ball in double coverage with an impressively low 3 interceptions. Looking at those numbers, there is no question he should enter the NFL draft.

The problem with Tagovailoa is he is injured, dealing with a dislocated hip.   This occurred in the 2nd quarter of Alabama’s victory over Mississippi State on November 16th forcing him to miss the rest of the year. The surgery went well and he is expected to make a full recovery.

According to ESPN, Tagovailoa tweeted, “I’ll be making my decision on the 6th. God bless and Roll Tide.”

Tagovailoa could still be taken in April if a team wants to take a risk.  On tape, he showed he can play the college game. Tagovailoa tossed for 7,442 yards, 87 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.  On January 8, 2018, he helped Alabama win the College Football Playoff.  Tagovailoa found DeVonta Smith open for a touchdown in overtime to cap a 26-23 victory over the University of Georgia.  There is nothing left for him to prove in the college game.

Tagovailoa will decide what is best for his future.  He could stay at Alabama to rehab his injury.  If not, teams will take a risk and hope Tagovailoa is ready to suit up for their team in the next few years.
