Safety Kareem Jackson Back With The Denver Broncos

By Jordan Long

The Denver Broncos are awaiting their upcoming schedule tomorrow.  The NFL will announce all regular season games for every team even though some matchups are being announced earlier.  Denver has brought back a key free agent, safety Kareem Jackson. He agreed to another 1-year deal with Denver.

Jackson has been with the Denver Broncos since the 2019 season.  He has proven to be a key player for the Broncos secondary.  Last season he played in all 17 games for the Broncos, the only defensive player to do so.  Jackson was on the field for a career-high 1,139 snaps last season.  Jackson totaled 94 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 passes defended.  Unfortunately, he didn’t record an interception for the first time in his career.

Once the season was over, the Broncos knew he was a free agent.  Jackson could have gone to another franchise a risk the Broncos took.  Not many teams wanted to take a chance on a 35-year-old safety.  Denver knew they wanted to re-sign him.  It was just a matter of time. The Broncos brought Jackson back on a 1-year deal worth $2.688 million.

The Broncos know he is a leader on the defense.  He is a veteran who the Broncos are looking to count on.  Jackson is going to play the opposite side of Justin Simmons at the safety position.  Both of them are going to play in coverage to knock the football down or pick it off.  Jackson is also one of the Broncos’ hardest hitters.  He can smack an opponent preventing him from gaining large chucks of yards.  Some of the hits could force the opponents into incompletions or fumbles.

The Broncos’ defense may be one of the best in the NFL and it is even better by adding back Jackson.  They have a new defensive coordinator, Vance Joseph.  He is going to be in charge of the defense on Sean Payton’s staff.  The next order of business for the Broncos is minicamp.  They will have a rookie minicamp on May 12 to 14 and the whole team will have a mandatory minicamp from June 13 to the 15th.  Training camp will begin in July. Denver looks to improve on their 5-12 record.
