By Jordan LongThe Dallas Cowboys season came to a close on Saturday in the Divisional Round following their lost to the L.A. Rams by the score of 30-22. This might end the career of Dallas Cowboys’ linebacker Sean Lee. He will think about his NFL future during the offseason.
Lee finished his 9th NFL year. He played in 7 games for the Cowboys. Lee missed most of the season dealing with a hamstring injury. He was still able to help the Cowboys with 30 tackles, a half a sack and 1 fumble recovery.
In 2 playoff games for the Cowboys Lee didn’t play well. He was unable to put pressure on the quarterback but was able to make the tackle in the open field to prevent a large gain. Lee totaled 7 tackles.
After Saturday’s loss to the L.A. Rams Lee is going to take time and figure out what he wants to do next season. His big issue is his health. Lee hasn’t been healthy the last two seasons. In 2017 he appeared in 11 games because he aggravated his left hamstring in week 10 in a game against the Atlanta Falcons. In 2016 he played in 15 games, the most since 2011 when he had the same amount of starts.
According to Yahoosports.com, Lee said, “We will see. I am going to take some time and think about it. Obviously, staying healthy is something I need to do if I want to keep playing. But I do love playing the game. I love the organization. We have to figure out the future. There is a decision. I need to talk to my family. And see what the deal is Cowboys wise. We have to figure things out.”
Lee may want to think about stepping away from football because he has been injured most of his career. Lee was productive despite the time he spent on injured reserve. In his time with the Cowboys, he was one of the best tacklers on the team and rarely missed bringing down an opponent in the open field with a total of 698 tackles. If runners weren’t careful, he would knock the ball out for fumbles with 2 forced fumbles. He landed on 5 fumbles to turn the game back to his offense. Lee brought pressure on the quarterback and ended up with 3 sacks.
Lee isn’t just a linebacker who can tackle. He can play in pass coverage as well. Lee is able to tip the ball away from opponents so they can’t catch the football and he comes away with interceptions. He had 26 pass deflections and 13 interceptions.
If he decides to walk away from football, it wouldn’t be the worst decision. He has to think about his health 1st. Lee has done plenty in his time in the NFL. He has been voted into the Pro Bowl 2 times and was selected onto the All-Pro Team once. He is still searching for a Super Bowl ring which may never happen. Hopefully he will choose retiring from the NFL.
