The Seattle Seahawks added another weapon for quarterback Russell Wilson. They signed wide receiver Brandon Marshall to a 1-year deal. The contract is worth up to $2 million if he reaches incentives.
Marshall is entering his 13th NFL season and Seattle is his 5th team. He previously suited up for the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, New York Jets, and New York Giants. He will improve Seattle’s wide receiver core that includes Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett.
Marshall should be the 2nd wide receiver opposite Baldwin. He will take pressure off Baldwin as the only playmaker at wide receiver. Marshall is able to catch the football and make a few defenders miss. When that happens, it will be long gains for Seattle.
in his career, Marshall averages an impressive 12.7 yards per catch. He can also be a large target in the end zone. His size at 6 foot 4 inches allows him to out jump defensive backs for touchdowns. Wilson should look for him early and often in games.
This seems to be a decent move. The surprising part about this is there is even a better wide receiver Seattle could have landed, Dez Bryant. Bryant is 29 while Marshall is 34. Bryant might have more years to play in the NFL than Marshall. Bryant can do everything Marshall can in the open field. The only difference between the two is Bryant’s average yards per catch. Bryant averages 2 more yards than Marshall at 14.0.
The Seahawks felt Marshall is the better fit in the offense. Marshall has to perform. At least Seattle is not overpaying for him. Hopefully this the right decision for Seattle is to help them make a Super Bowl run again.
