Starting Quarterback For The Denver Broncos In 2016, Brian Hoyer?

The Houston Texans informed quarterback Brian Hoyer that they are going to cut him. He will become a free agent. Hoyer had one year left on his two-year, $10.5 million deal he signed last March.

Hoyer played in 11 games for Houston this past season, passing for 2,606 yards with 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The Texans made the playoffs by winning the AFC South. In the playoffs they faced the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card Round. Hoyer was awful in the blowout loss throwing for 136 yards, 4 interceptions, and fumbling twice.

Once the offseason came, Hoyer was the odd man out. The Texans were busy making deals with free agent quarterbacks. They agreed to a four-year, $72 million agreement with Brock Osweiler. Brandon Weeden also agreed to come to the Texans for two-years worth $4 million. They had no choice but to cut ties with Hoyer.

Hoyer will begin to search for a new home. This will be his 5th team in the last seven years. A landing spot could be the Denver Broncos. Denver has two quarterbacks on the roster, Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian. Hoyer could come in and compete for the starting job day one. He would be the right fit in Gary Kubiak’s offense and run the bootleg. If the pocket starts to break down, Hoyer can scamper for yards. He is the ideal quarterback that the Broncos are looking for.

The one problem with Hoyer is his decision making. Sure he had a great regular season last year, but in the playoffs, he looked timid throwing the football. He was held the football way too long which allowed Kansas City to intercept the football or knock it out of his hand for a fumble. The Broncos might have to work with him on his decision-making.

The Broncos are still hopeful they can make a deal with the San Francisco 49ers for quarterback Colin Kaepernick. If they are unsuccessful, the Broncos should look at Hoyer. He won’t demand $11 million a year and would fit into the Broncos’ salary cap.   Hoyer could be the quarterback they want starting in Denver next season.

What should the Broncos do now that Brian Hoyer is a free agent?
