The Chicago Bears Bench Quarterback Mike Glennon, Turn To Rookie Mitch Trubisky

By Jordan Long

The Chicago Bears are making a switch at quarterback. The Bears stand at 1-3 and it had been Mike Glennon under center. They are now going with rookie Mitch Trubisky as they prepare to take on the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football.

In the offseason, Chicago signed Glennon to a 3 year $45 million contract hoping he could lead this team to the playoffs. He has not lived up to the expectations the Bears had so far. Glennon has tossed for 833 yards and 4 touchdowns. The problem is he hasn’t been able to read the defenses with a total of 5 interceptions. Glennon also fumbles with 3, a total of 8 turnovers. Those have cost the Bears not only field position, but points off the board. His quarterback rating is 76.9.

It hasn’t been all Glennon’s fault. The offensive line is not doing their job of protecting him. Every play it seems he is being pressured and has to throw the ball away sooner then he wants to. Glennon has been sacked 8 times this year.

The Bears feel the season is slipping away. They are last in the NFC North division at 1-3 but they are only two games out of first place. The Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers share the lead at 3-1.

Mitch Trubisky may not be the answer to save their season. He is a rookie quarterback and has yet to throw a pass in the NFL. His only action of the year was in preseason. Trubisky’s inexperience at reading NFL defenses could equal turnovers, plus he might be running for his life because of the porous offensive line.

Head Coach John Fox has to hope this works. He made a switch at quarterback before in 2011. Fox was the head coach of the Denver Broncos at the time. They started 1-4 with Kyle Orton before going to Tim Tebow who guided the Broncos to a 7-4 record, finishing 8-8 and ended up winning the AFC West and a playoff game. History could repeat itself for John Fox but that is only if Trubisky plays well. If not, the Bears will need to go back to Mike Glennon.

What do you think of the Chicago Bears switching quarterbacks for this upcoming week?
