The Washington Football Team May Have Leaked Their New Name, The Admirals

The Washington Football Team is preparing to take on the New York Giants.  They are looking to improve on their 6-10 record. Washington is going to miss the postseason for the 5th time in 6 years. They will have a top 15 pick in the NFL Draft. Right now, Washington is 9^th in the draft order which could change if they win or lose on Sunday. No matter what, they will have a new name in place for 2022 but it has allegedly been leaked.

                The Washington Football Team has gone through a name change before.  Prior to being the Washington Football Team, they were known as the Washington Redskins.  This name lasted from 1937 until the 2019 season. 

The reason for the name change to the Washington Football team is the controversy surrounding the term “redskin”.  Some Native Americans didn’t mind it as a name while others found it offensive.  Most high school and some college teams are changing their names such as Indians, Chiefs, Braves, or Warriors so they won’t use Native American stereotypes and symbols.  Washington felt a change was needed.

                Washington was going to reveal their new name on February 2nd, 2022.  According to Wahsgtonfootball.com, they cut two names from the list, Wolves or Red Wolves. That left speculation on what the new name was going to be. 

                The reveal may not be a secret anymore.  This morning when Washington made the announcement, they accidentally put the website Washingtonadmirals.com. It directed people back to Washingtonfootball.com.  This could mean they already said what their new name is going to be. Speculation is allegedly the name is going to be the Admirals.

                Even though the name was supposedly leaked it is not 100%.  Neither owner Dan Snyder nor anybody from the Washington front office is stating that is the new name. People are just going off the website that was accidentally out but the website is owned by the Washington Football Team. Rumor is that the Admirals will be the name going forward.  Now, we really won’t know until February 2^nd  but whoever put the website ruined the surprise if that is the name.
