The Baltimore Ravens sit on top of the AFC North Division at 11-3. They are going to make the playoffs for the 2nd straight year. Baltimore could also earn the #1 seed in the AFC and a first-round bye if they win out. This week, they are set to take on the San Francisco 49ers.
The 49ers come into this matchup with the same record. They have won the NFC West Division and could end up with the first-round bye. Experts are saying this matchup on Monday night is a Super Bowl preview.
Both teams are on top of their conferences with 3 games to go. Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback Lamar Jackson is downplaying the matchup. He knows it’s a big game but not a Super Bowl preview. According to NBCsports.com, Jackson said, “The Super Bowl is in February. We’re in December right now. We’ve got to focus on Monday night. I’m not worried about what people say.”
Jackson is right. The Ravens and the 49ers still have plenty to play for. Sure this is a huge game that will go a long way to determine their playoff seeding. Even when the game is all said in done after Monday there are still 2 more weeks left in the regular season. That is still time for one of them to miss out on the #1 seed in their conference.
Once the postseason begins, there is no guarantee these two will meet in the Super Bowl. There is a possibility that these teams could be knocked out before they advance that far. It will be a great game but not a Super Bowl preview. The media needs to stop. Both teams have much to play for. If they do meet in the Super Bowl, then worry about previewing it. This is just a regular season game which on paper should be a close one.
