Vince Carter Looking Towards Two More NBA Seasons

By Jordan Long

The Memphis Grizzlies were knocked out of the playoffs by the San Antonio Spurs in 6 games. Despite the loss, Memphis’ shooting guard Vince Carter isn’t done playing. Carter is an unrestricted free agent this summer and has spent 18 years in the NBA. According to Yahoosports.com, Carter said, “I said to myself, I want to play 15 years. I don’t know where I got that from. And then I got to 15 years and I kept going. I never capped it, but at the same time I’ve had a lot of players remind me of things I’ve said. I’m still saying ‘two more years and I’m done.” He wants to play 2 more years.

Carter isn’t the same player he once was. This season he averaged 8 points per game in 24.7 minutes for the Grizzlies. In the playoffs he scored 9.2 points per game while starting all 6 of the Grizzlies’ games. Carter can still score but he is way past his prime.

If Carter wants to play two more years, he would leave the NBA at age 42. That is old for an NBA player. Carter is better off retiring and becoming a coach. He would still be in involved in basketball.

Carter has done enough in the game of basketball as a player. He appeared in 8 NBA All-Star games. Carter was selected onto the All-NBA Second Team and Third Team once. Carter even won the NBA Slam Dunk competition in 2000. There isn’t much he hasn’t accomplished at the NBA level.

The only reason for him to keep playing is to win an NBA Championship. Carter played in one NBA Championship series back in 2009 as a member of the Orlando Magic. The Magic lost to the L.A. Lakers in 5 games. He wants that ring. Even if he doesn’t win a ring, he will still go down as one of the best NBA players to ever play the game. Carter should make the right decision and retire.
