Wide receiver Davante Adams is a free agent. Green Bay could franchise tag Adams which would allow him to stay in Green Bay with the idea of agreeing to a long term contract. This is a possibility especially if they keep quarterback Aaron Rogers. Now let’s just say Adams tests free agency, could the Denver Broncos be interested in him?
The Broncos are looking to upgrade their team this offseason. Denver has around $38 million to spend in free agency to upgrade the team. The Broncos could possibly take on his salary depending on how much Adams wants. Last year, his base salary was around $12 million, which would be affordable for Denver.
Adams could be another wide receiver to add to the mix for Denver. Of course, the big question is who is going to throw the football to him. Denver only has Drew Lock on their roster. They may look to add a veteran quarterback. Either way though, Adams is a guy who Denver could want.
The Broncos Head Coach is Nathaniel Hackett who was Adams’ offensive coordinator in Green Bay for the past 3 years. He knows the system.
Sure adding Adams seems like it makes sense for Denver. Every team could use wide receiver depth. The Broncos don’t have a veteran like Adams on their roster. The problem is Denver already has wide receivers who can make plays. These are Jerry Judy, Tim Patrick, and Courtland Sutton as the three main receivers. Judy has totaled 1,323 yards in his 2 years in the NFL. Judy has a disappointing 3 touchdowns. Patrick has 4 years in the NFL with the Denver Broncos with 2,009 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. Sutton is a veteran of the group. This upcoming season will be his 5th. He has 2,658 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.
After these players, there is KJ Hemler who unfortunately is coming off an ACL tear he suffered last year. He has shown flashes of what he can do at the NFL level. His yards aren’t impressive at 455 but he has a yards per catch of 13.
Denver is going to do what is best for them. It doesn’t seem like adding Adams makes a whole lot of sense. Of course, these rumors might be shot down anyway because Green Bay may franchise tag him. Denver could place a call to Adams if he hits free agency. It could be worth the conversation.
